Groove Ramadan*

The Groove Armada show at Webster Hall on 24 March was fantastic!  I now understand why the term "mental" exists to describe gigs.  It was like a festival show that should have been in a very large tent, but instead it was in a fairly intimate venue, and of course I was on my usual speaker platform perch right up by the stage.  They performed as a live band with SaintSaviour taking vocals, and a male vocalist to come in on songs like "Get Down" as well.  The lights and lasers created a killer atmosphere and the crowd was totally into it, with lots of jumping and hands in the air.  On top of it all, you could tell that Andy (grinning from ear to ear for most of the show) and Tom and the rest of the band were having a great time and were as psyched about this show as the crowd was.

SaintSaviour is a powerhouse - she kind of puts La Roux to shame. The thing about SaintSavior is that she is much better at drawing the audience in and holding them in her spell than La Roux, and her dance moves are charmingly playful and non-self conscious.  They both have good voices, but from a performance aspect SaintSaviour is much more compelling.  She more than holds her own against Groove Armada's massive wall of sound.  Having seen both SaintSaviour and La Roux live on the exact same stage, I have to say I would take SaintSaviour over La Roux easily from a live performance aspect.  Bottom line: This gig went off in a massive way and Groove Armada is now one of my fave artists.
