Long Overdue Poems

I haven't done a poetry post since 2010. Man, how the time flies. Here are bunch of poems from the past 18 months....

I want you as I dream
perpetual longing
fits me like my favorite band
in tee shirt form, thoughts
of you branded into me
like their weathered logo
peeling and fading
against cotton but hanging
on, preserved songs
playing over and over
surrounding me in traces
just as your ghostly touch caresses
before my mind shifts

It comes two nights
later, once I think that it is gone
creeping slowly into my mind
and lodging there like a horror story
that won't be forgotten
no matter how hard
I try to shake free
from its insidious imagery, choking
my consciousness, leaving me
gasping for sanity as I strive
for the soothing murmurs of sleep

She does not live
inside her eyes
but looks elsewhere
not believing
what she sees and feels
duality subsumes
her, expectations met
how can they
simply be
truth
when nothing
is ever as true
as dreams

The heat eats me
from the outside in
gnawing and laughing
at my foolishness

Manufactured soul
twinkling in the desert night
obliterating

So many things
to so many people
Who holds the core
truth neon bubblegum
clouds, waves alight
LED anemones
and flowing limbs
reaching for the essence
of a DJ saved life
forgetting
to say thank you

I wait dreaming
of a buzz I know
will come
but after too long
and my longing
will have drifted
away, sweet
residue of invention
to be resurrected
at another time
and place

All those little moments
swirling merging leaving
impressions faint and deep
lingering and lasting
sinking and snapped
to the surface
caught by filaments
of sun strengthened light
