"Everything", Sam Sparro: The early 90s vibes of Sam Sparro's latest in a long line of killer tracks is serving some serious Lisa Fischer circa So Intense vibes. It's perfect for strutting down the street while feeling like the world is at your feet.
"Glitter", Todrick Hall: This is a delicious, addictive, sexy dance jam that lends itself to being put on a loop for as it takes to feel like you are invincible. The lyrics are so evocative, listing to "Glitter" is like jamming out in the most perfect snow globe ever.
Last Christmas: This movie is nowhere near as brilliant or classic as Love Actually, but it has it own odd charms, as well as a twists I didn't see coming. Despite being overly earnest, Henry Golding manages to be charming, and Emilia Clarke is truly delightful, even when being cynical and grumpy (I can totally relate!).The George Michael and Wham! filled soundtrack is fantastic, and the London-at-Christmastime scenery is festive indeed. While Last Christmas is far from perfect,it does exude a warmth and coziness that is as comforting as a well-loved Christmas sweater.
Dark Waters: This movie is like a John Grisham book, except that this legal thriller is a true story. Dark Waters is an eye-opening story on many levels, both good and bad: from a corporate law firm standing behind a lawyer taking on a seemingly insignificant civil case, to a chemical that has irrevocably pervaded our human ecosystem, to the mechanics of the law and beyond. Mark Ruffalo is excellent as a good-guy lawyer fighting staggering corporate greed over a very long period of time, and one thing in particular that the film does very well is emphasizing just how long the case takes at each and every step along the way. Dark Waters is a must see because it sheds important light on our country, our government, our industrial complex, and our society as a whole.
