π Books
Cult Classic, Sloane Crosley: The plot is a little bit out there, but the nuanced character studies are completely wonderful. Plus this book captures the vibrancy and transience of life in NYC, as well as what a pain dating is here!
πΆ Music
"Speed of Sound", Chord Overstreet: I think this was inspired by Top Gun: Maverick, and it's a catchy, synthy dramatic pop song that would be right at home in an 80s movie, preferably paired with a montage.
π¬ Film
Glass Onion: This is a delightful, smart, classy, hilarious movie for adults. The cast is fantastic, the story is well told, the sets & costumes are lavish, and the cameos are top shelf. I was thoroughly entertained by this film and look forward to future Benoit Blanc adventures.
Devotion: I knew Glen Powell was going to be a major movie star from the very first time I saw Everybody Wants Some!! and he really comes into his own with Devotion (even more so than he does in Top Gun: Maverick). The sheer talent and audacity of naval aviators gets me every time, and this film depicts their skills and heroism even more powerfully since it is based on a true story. Glen Powell, Jonathan Majors, and Thomas Sadoski all give excellent nuanced and deeply felt performances. While Devotion features plenty of impressive flying, it doesn't gloss over the harrowing realities of aviation and war. Be prepared to have tears in your eyes for the last 20 or so minutes of this movie.
