Sadly, Pizza Express's judges did not feel that any of the four pizza ideas that the inimitable Brit and I developed were good enough to make it to the final 5 of their Pizza Challenge contest, but apparently to do that you had to be super boring.
Maybe these pies can be resurrected once @labelindescript and I get our dream food truck started up in the distant future.
Our decidedly un-boring pizzas:
1) Vigneto Sogno: traditional pizza dough, tomato sauce and mozzarella/Parmesan mixture, chunks of lobster meat, sweet corn, linguica, and pan-fried calamari rings, finished with a sprinkling of Old Bay seasoning.
2) Chococana: dessert pizza with lightly sweetened brioche bread base, Madeira infused mascarpone creme sauce, with toasted almond slivers, orange chocolate chunks, and toasted coconut shavings.
3) Strawberry Fields: dessert pizza with lightly sweetened brioche bread base, rum infused creme anglaise sauce, clouds of meringue, sliced strawberries, topped with white chocolate shavings and a rum-caramel drizzle.
4) Chippy Pesce: traditional pizza dough with smashed-pea pesto, mozzarella cheese, tender chunks of pan-fried cod, roasted potato slivers, and peas, finished with lemon and tartar sauce drizzles.
