Vibes for days.... 80s low-fi synthy sounds, crystalline melodic guitars, beautiful vocals. "Smoke Sprite" and "Til the Sun Goes Up" have been two playlist staples all year, but the entire album is addictive.
This is one of those albums that the first time I listened to it, it felt like it had been in my life for a long time. I connect with the lyrics of the songs on this album so strongly, and take great comfort and strength from them. "Lifeline" and "You're Beautiful" are both gorgeous, and "Back to Me" is a ton of fun. The whole album hangs together wonderfully. The thoughtfulness of it all and the pop-punky-EDM sounds remind me of 5 Seconds of Summer, but with a bit more romance.
Every song on this EP is excellent, and Taeyang's voice is amazing. "Shoong!" is such an earworm, "Vibe" features Jimin of BTS, and "Nightfall" sounds like a Keith Urban song. So many moods packed into six songs.
Rick Astley's voice continues to floor me -- and to think he never really wanted to be a singer! On "Golden Hour", Rick is a powerhouse, and "Never Gonna Stop" is highly compelling. The whole album has a throwback sound while also feeling timeless. I love listening to Rick experiment and explore his sonic passions.
This album has some fantastic textures and a laid-back 90s R&B sound, interspersed with some tropical vibes, that bring to mind sunny summer days. All the JINBO produced tracks, including 'So Good to Me", are particular standouts.
Jimmy's final album doesn't disappoint, with his best work since 2006's Take the Weather with You. Sure, there are plenty silly and lighthearted songs, but there are also some of Jimmy's signature beautiful, thoughtful, wistful tunes like the title track, "Bubbles Up", and "Columbus".
Thoughtful lyrics and well-crafted R&B-tinged pop are the trough-line for the four songs on this EP. "Break My Heart" is a definite bop. This project is possibly one of the best things to come out of the Hollywood strikes this year.
